ICUMSA-45 white refined cane sugar is one of the most highly refined types of sugar in world trade. Consumers most frequently buy this grade directly, drawn to its sparkling white color and clean taste. Because the refining process eliminates the bacteria and contaminants present in raw sugars, it is the safest form of sugar — and the one in constant international demand.
The ICUMSA rating is linked to the color of sugar, and in the case of Brazil, color represents purity. Brazilian sugar carries a lower ICUMSA value, which means a whiter, purer sugar than most competing origins. EU specifications do not match Brazilian ones — SGS of São Paulo provides ICUMSA ratings for European Union destinations — and Brazil's refined sugar rating of 45 attests to its high quality.
